Talking tiles

Stone look tiles are still very popular for a timeless feel, says interior designer Leah Frost of Frobisher. “We are seeing more soft pastel feature elements coming through to add a touch of personality but still keeping it a calm and inviting space. Playing with how the tiles are laid can add a whole other look and feel, whether its vertical, horizontal, stack bond, brick bond or herringbone.”

Jess Brewer of Tilehaus has noticed a distinct move away from stark all-white bathrooms and kitchens. Stone will continue to be a big trend this year, but with purse strings tightening, we are seeing people substitute stone with porcelain look alternatives and being drawn towards organic finishes, colours and textures, says Jess.

There’s also a move towards maximalism and people having fun with their interiors, using lots of bold colours, fun lay patterns and exciting pairings. Pink and green are popular accent colours currently, as are terrazzo-style floor tiles.

People are leaning towards larger format tiles for their floors, favouring 600 x 600mm sizes to reduce the grout lines, says Jess, and homeowers are being adventurous with their grout colours.
