I enjoyed Joe Bennett’s piece, War on Prickles (May). It read like a short story. My Scottish mother used the thistle as something of an emblem, usually wearing a thistle broach and often with a fresh thistle on the front grill of her ancient auto. This piece would have brought a tear to her eye.
