Back in April, I rescued a tiny, self-sown tomato seedling, put it in a pot, brought it inside and have showered it with attention. It has produced two fruit (not a good ratio to the attention given) but now, one is a beautiful red and ready for picking.
I had covered my asparagus bed in a thick layer of pea straw. Imagine my recent surprise as I lifted the wee pile up and discovered a white spear of asparagus! Double surprise as it is still winter here in the Wairarapa! It tasted just like asparagus too.
